Why Your Notion Setup Feels Like a Second Job (and How to Fix It)
Most people over-build their Notion workspace and then avoid it. Here's the simpler way.
I've seen hundreds of Notion workspaces, and the ones that actually get used are almost never the most impressive ones. They're the boring ones. A single dashboard. Three or four databases. No nested dashboards inside dashboards.
The problem starts when you watch a YouTube tour of someone's 'ultimate life OS' and try to recreate it. You spend a weekend building, feel proud, then never open it again because it's too much work to maintain. That's not a you problem. That's a design problem.
My rule is simple: if a page doesn't help you make a decision or take an action in under 10 seconds, it doesn't belong on your home screen. That means no quote of the day, no habit tracker you'll abandon by Thursday, no elaborate tagging system you'll never use.
Start with one pain point. For most people I work with, it's meals or money. Build a single page for that. Use it for two weeks. Only then add the next thing. Your workspace should feel like a deep breath, not a to-do list with a login.
If you want a shortcut, my Home Command Center template follows this exact philosophy. It's intentionally small. You can always add, but you can't un-overwhelm.
