Why your Notion dashboard is stressful (and how to fix it)
If your Notion board makes you anxious, you're not alone. Here's the simple fix that changed my workflow — and can change yours too.
When I first started using Notion, my dashboard was a chaotic mess. I had databases inside databases, color-coded tags, and a sidebar that looked like a filing cabinet exploded. Every time I opened it, my heart rate went up. I thought I was the problem — that I wasn't 'organized enough' to use a tool like this.
Turns out, the problem was my setup. Notion is a blank canvas, which is amazing and terrifying. Without constraints, we tend to over-engineer: too many options, too much friction, too many decisions before we even get to our actual to-do list. The fix isn't more structure — it's less.
Start with a single page. Call it 'Today.' Put a checkbox for your top three tasks and a link to your calendar. That's it. See how that feels for a week. Then add one more element — a notes section or a tiny habit tracker. The magic happens when your dashboard feels like a breath of fresh air, not a to-do list that's judging you.
If you want a shortcut, I've built a Minimal Daily Dashboard template that does exactly this — it's the calmest thing I've ever made. But even if you don't use it, the principle is the same: your system should serve you, not stress you out.
