Inside My Design Process for the Home Management Template
A behind-the-scenes look at how I turned a messy apartment and a thousand sticky notes into one calm Notion dashboard.
The home management template started because I was tired of finding overdue bills under my coffee mug. I had a paper planner, a notes app, and a whiteboard — none of them talked to each other. So I gave myself one rule: everything about the house goes in one place.
First, I mapped the recurring stuff. Bills, cleaning, maintenance, groceries, pet meds. I grouped them into four areas and asked, 'What decision does this help me make?' If a category didn't answer that, it got cut. That's why there's no 'miscellaneous' section — misc is where organization goes to die.
Then I designed the views around real moments. A 'This Week' view for Sunday planning. A 'Payday' view for the 1st and 15th. A 'Deep Clean' view that only appears monthly. Each view is a gentle nudge, not a guilt trip. If you skip a week, nothing turns red and yells at you.
The final step was making it feel warm. I chose a soft sage and cream palette, added a cozy cover image, and wrote tiny encouraging notes in the empty states. It sounds small, but those details are why people tell me they actually enjoy opening it. That's the goal — not perfect, just pleasant enough to return to.
