How to build a morning routine that doesn't feel like a chore

A gentle 3-step method to create a morning flow that actually works with your energy, not against it.

I used to wake up and immediately reach for my phone. Notifications, emails, doomscroll — by 7:05 AM I'd already handed my brain to everyone else. Changing that took more than willpower; I needed a system that felt like a hug, not a boot camp.

Here's what finally worked: I created a Notion dashboard with three sections — 'first thing' (one small win like drink water), 'intention' (a single word for how I want to feel), and 'no-go' (the one thing I won't do before breakfast). That's it. No 5 AM alarms, no 10-step skincare.

The trick is to start smaller than you think necessary. If your ideal morning is journaling for 20 minutes, start with one sentence. If you want to meditate, try three deep breaths. The template does the remembering so you don't have to. Over time, the micro-habits stack into a routine that actually feels like yours.
