How I Built a Home Management System in Notion (And You Can Too)
A behind-the-scenes look at the template that keeps my household running — from groceries to maintenance to family schedules.
I never thought I'd be the person with a 'home binder' — until I moved into a bigger place and things started slipping. The plant needed watering, the air filter was overdue, and somehow we bought three jars of pickles in one week. So I opened Notion and started building.
The first thing I created was a simple dashboard with three sections: tasks, shopping, and maintenance. Under tasks, I listed everything that needed doing around the house, with due dates and a checkbox. For shopping, I made a quick-capture list — I can add an item from my phone in two seconds, and it syncs everywhere.
Maintenance was the game changer. I made a table with every appliance and system in the house, and a 'last done' date. When I change the filter, I update the date — and the template automatically shows me when it's due again. No more guesswork, no more neglecting the HVAC.
